Stena Drilling, headquartered in Scotland, has commissioned a new mobile offshore drilling unit (MODU) built in 2008. Off the coast of Greece.

Stena Drilling has secured a new exploration drilling campaign with Energean Hellasa subsidiary of Energianfor the unit Stena Drill Max, described As the first drillship to secure DNV’s Abate (P) notation. This is seen as the first deep offshore well to be drilled in Greece.
The new drilling campaign, expected to start in early 2027, is for a single well in Block 2 located in the northwestern Ionian Sea, with managed pressure drilling (MPD) requirements.
The 2008-built Stena DrillMAX, the first of the DrillMAX series of vessels, is a dynamically positioned harsh environment DP Class 3 drillship capable of drilling in water depths up to 10,000 feet.
The maximum drilling depth is 35,000 feet, and the drillship can accommodate 180 people. Stena Drilling and Energean have a long-standing partnership, including previous operations in Israel and Morocco across multiple campaigns.

This deal comes after Stena Drilling cooperated With Keystone to develop a next-generation well delivery model that supports automation.
