About 24 days after achieving first LNG production from the first of three planned trains, the Qatar Energy and ExxonMobil LNG project in Texas, US, has exported its first LNG cargo.
It was reported today, April 23, that the first LNG cargo from the Golden Pass LNG project in the Sabine Pass was loaded on board Qatar Energy Company’s recently built LNG carrier Al-Qia’a in Korea, with a capacity of 174,000 cubic metres.
This comes after the project achieved sustainable monetization operations The first production of liquefied natural gas of the first of three LNG trains on March 30.

The project includes three LNG liquefaction lines with a total capacity of 18.1 million tons per year, five LNG storage tanks with a capacity of 155 thousand cubic meters, and two sea berths to accommodate large LNG tankers. Qatar Energy Trading Company, the LNG trading entity wholly owned by Qatar Energy Company, will acquire 70% of the project’s LNG production capacity.
Following the delivery of the first LNG on Train 1, the project’s main engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractors, McDermott and US-based Chiyoda International Corporation (CIC), continued to progress with the construction and commissioning of Trains 2 and 3.
Qatar Energy (70%) and ExxonMobil (30%) announced a Final Investment Decision (FID), worth more than $10 billion, to develop the Golden Pass LNG export project in February 2019. This is Qatar Energy’s largest investment in the United States.
