Direct carbon and arca Announced a new collaboration to bring Arca’s Industrial Mineralization (IMin) CO2 Removal (CDR) credits to market.
The company said Arca’s technology is the first field-based system to accelerate carbon mineralization in mine waste, with the aim of turning a key industry challenge into a scalable CDR solution.
The technology has already attracted the attention of major buyers, including Frontier, which submitted an early pre-purchase agreement, and Microsoft, which It has entered into a 10-year CDR purchase agreement With Arca for approximately 300,000 tons.
The mining industry generates billions of tons of alkali rock waste annually, requiring environmental management. At this scale, the industry also presents a significant opportunity to remove carbon dioxide.
Arca’s CDR pathway, known as Industrial Mineralization (IMin), deploys proprietary technologies that accelerate carbon mineralization in alkaline rock waste generated by heavy industries such as mining and steelmaking. This pathway leverages industry expertise and infrastructure to permanently store CO2 as stable minerals for over 10,000 years, making this a high-quality and scalable solution.
Arca says IMin offers a new model for mining: one that will improve economics and potentially achieve important environmental co-benefits such as tailings stabilization.
The company said it has validated the technology under real-world operating conditions and is generating data to support further development, with the potential to remove millions of tons of carbon dioxide over the next decade.
After completing 18 months Pilot in partnership with BHP Having removed net carbon dioxide very efficiently at an active mining site, Arca is now laying the groundwork to deploy the technology at additional sites.
In Western Australia, Arca has partnered with Tjiwarl Aboriginal Corporation to develop projects in the Goldfields region.
Carbon Direct will act as co-developer with Arca on future IMin projects, contributing scientific expertise and knowledge of the carbon market to deliver credits with the highest standards of robustness, measurement and verification.

With 16.5 billion tonnes of suitable old mining waste globally and 3 billion tonnes produced annually, Arca says its technology can scale alongside mining operations around the world.
