Danish wave energy company Wavepiston I entered into an agreement In 2023 with the French company YS Energies Marines Developpement (YS EMD) to develop a wave energy project.

Following on from the work initiated under this partnership, Wavepiston has entered into a collaboration with CreOcean to implement a wave data campaign on the east coast of Martinique.

The French company has installed a wave buoy that will collect 12 months of wave data on the Atlantic coast of Martinique to enhance understanding of local wave resources.

This will bring Wavepiston closer to deploying a pilot farm, followed by a commercial wave energy farm.

The budget is €63,000, and the project receives funding from ADEME.

“Furthermore, the project will receive local support to engage with local politicians and landowners. Obtaining approval from local stakeholders is very important for the development of Wavepiston wave energy farms.” Wavestone said.
