Low-carbon fuel solutions provider Anew Climate and Avenir, a supplier of LNG and LNG to the maritime sector, have undertaken Europe’s first joint bunkering operation using liquefied bio-methane (bio-LNG).

During the operation at the LNG terminal in the port of Klaipeda, Lithuania, operated by KN Energies, Anew supplied certified bio-based waste-based LNG to the 2022-built Avenir Ascension vessel, which transported the product to Sweden for use by vessels operated by Swedish ferry operator Destination Gotland.
“Making shipping green is not a futuristic aspiration – it is happening today.” He said John Cosmo DoyleManaging Director at Anew Climate Europe. “By combining our expanded renewable gas network with Avenir’s offshore infrastructure, we deliver robust, fully certified supply chains for bio-LNG that are flexibly practical, accessible and compliant with regulatory requirements. We are proud to launch our first initiative with Avenir as we expand our bio-LNG offerings globally.”
According to Anew, the delivered bio-LNG meets FuelEU Maritime and RED III requirements and is fully compatible with existing LNG infrastructure, allowing shipowners to reduce emissions without modifying ships or bunkering systems. This achievement is the company’s first LNG bunkering project in Europe and A series of such operations follows in North America.
