Baltic Dry Index holds 5-day rise


The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk shipping index, which monitors prices for ships carrying dry bulk goods, snapped a five-day winning streak on Friday, falling about 1.9% to 2,978 points.

The cargo volume index, which typically transports cargo weighing 150,000 tons including iron ore and coal, fell 3.6% to 4,955 points.

Meanwhile, the Panamax index, which typically holds between 60,000 and 70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose 1.7% to reach its highest level in more than two years at 2,233 points. The Supramax index rose 0.1% to 1,522 points.

The benchmark index advanced 9.1% during the week.
