LNG Canada, a joint venture between Shell, Petronas, PetroChina, Mitsubishi Corporation and KOGAS, has awarded engineering firm Técnicas Reunidas a contract for front-end engineering design (FEED) services for Phase 2 of Coastal GasLink, located in British Columbia, on Canada’s west coast, adding to previous work carried out by the Spanish company for the project.
Owned and operated by TC Energy and its partners, it is 670 km long Coastal gas pipeline The natural gas is transported to Canada’s LNG facility near Kitimat. The second phase refers to the development of compressor stations, which would double the pipeline capacity without the need for additional pipelines to transport natural gas.
LNG Canada is working with Coastal GasLink under an integrated commercial model to advance Phase 2 planning. The second phase will include the construction and operation of five additional compression stations with 30 MW compression turbines, in addition to modifications to existing and planned facilities at various points along the pipeline’s route.
TR Canada E&C has been commissioned to provide FEED works to support planning for this potential second phase. The Spanish company’s scope of work includes preliminary engineering and project design, along with an assessment of potential project costs and utility scope of work, with the aim of supporting technical analysis as LNG Canada continues to explore paths leading to a potential Final Investment Decision (FID).
The award of this contract follows work previously carried out by Técnicas Reunidas in an earlier phase of the project, where it provided consulting and engineering services.
