Aberdeen-based decommissioning services provider Well-Safe Solutions has acquired a new assignment in the UK North Sea sector, enabling it to provide well commissioning capacity for the first time.

While unveiling a new contract to provide full well commissioning and asset implementation for an undisclosed client in the UK North Sea, Well-Safe Solutions explains that the contract represents a pivotal moment in expanding the company’s service offerings – leveraging Tier 1 capabilities to provide fully integrated well lifecycle services.
Billed as the company’s first well operation contract, the move is seen as a logical step for both the UK player and the industry, enabling more efficient well management through fully integrated package offerings – with owned assets, engineering and services from one provider under one contract.
The scope of the contract will see Well-Safe Solutions manage well decommissioning operations – from planning to execution, including preliminary subsurface analysis and well design engineering, followed by the provision of drilling rigs, service and support.
The excavator condition will be fulfilled by Safe defender An improved semi-submersible platform, which will be mobilized for travel to the field, is scheduled to be commissioned in June 2026. The platform has a capacity for 110 crew members and is specifically configured for the mid-water environments and technically complex subsurface conditions of the field.
Well-Safe Defender will then be mobilized in direct continuation of its next contract in the northern North Sea. The latest deal represents the fourth major contract awarded to the company this year, in addition to three others Decommissioning of the North Sea Projects.
According to the Scottish company, the contract award is positive news for its supply chain partners as well as the wider industry and community, with subcontracting and additional employment opportunities expected as part of the project.
Well-Safe Solutions emphasizes that the strategic addition of the operator to its range of services comes at a time when the availability of Mobile Offshore Drilling Units (MODUs) is a growing issue for the industry with demand increasing significantly.
The company highlights that capacity has been reduced to seven semi-submersible submarines currently in or near the region, several of which are already committed long-term. The company’s integrated services across the complete well life cycle are said to make operations planning and execution simpler, faster, safer and more cost-effective.
Phil MiltonWell-Safe Solutions CEO confirmed: “It has always been our plan to enable the company to perform the role of well operator for our customers, and we are grateful for the opportunity to do so under this new contract. This contract and well operator appointment recognizes our credentials as a cost- and schedule-effective partner with an outstanding safety record.”
“With our market-leading assets, technical expertise and project management capabilities, we are ideally placed to provide full well operation responsibility in the North Sea.”
