State-owned oil and gas giant Qatar Energy has notified Italy’s Edison of an extension of contractual force majeure, adding five more LNG shipments to the existing list of affected shipments.

Edison received an additional extension for Force Majeure Notice From Qatar Energy Company, covering five additional LNG cargoes, scheduled for delivery to Adriatic LNG The station is between July and mid-August 2026.
As a result, a total of 17 LNG cargoes are subject to force majeure, representing a volume of approximately 2.2 billion cubic meters of gas. The most recent shipments from Qatar date back to the end of March 2026.
The Italian company, which obtained 1.6 billion cubic meters of natural gas from the Gulf country during the first quarter of the year, continued to work to replace quantities and maintain delivery dates since the first notification.
Edison replaced nine of the 17 shipments, representing a volume of about one billion cubic meters of natural gas. The company has a long-term contract with Qatar Energy Company to supply 6.4 billion cubic meters of gas annually to Italy.
The contract, which has been in force since 2009, has a total duration of 25 years. Edison does not anticipate any impact on its end customers, thanks to the mitigation measures taken and portfolio management activities that have already begun.
