The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk shipping index, which monitors prices for ships carrying dry bulk goods, fell for the eighth straight session on Tuesday, falling 3.4% to its lowest level since May 1 at 2,818 points.
Continued weakness across larger ship segments continues to take its toll.
The cargo volume index, which usually transports 150,000 tons of cargo including iron ore and coal, fell 5.9% to 4,441 points. The Panamax index, which tracks ships carrying between 60,000 and 70,000 tons of coal or grain, fell 0.6% to 2,205 points.
On the other hand, the Supramax index rose by 1.1% to 1,614 points.
