Komatsu celebrated the opening of its new office building and customer experience center in Peoria, Illinois. The company said the new facility serves as a headquarters for surface transportation and as a center for engineering, sales, manufacturing management and other functions that support the company’s mining business.

The new headquarters highlights the role Peoria continues to play in Komatsu’s global mining operations, said Dan Funkannon, senior vice president of surface transportation. “From our work in electric vehicle transportation to the technologies that support low-emission mining, this site represents our commitment to creating value with our customers, employees and community for generations to come,” Funcannon said.

The site includes a customer experience center designed to give visitors a closer look at Komatsu technology. Sustainability features include renewable energy credits covering all purchased electricity, a rainwater harvesting system, and a 100-kilowatt solar array expected to produce about 120,000 kilowatt-hours annually.

The new office replaces an old 1970s-era Komatsu facility in Peoria.
