Fortuna Mining has received a decree from the Senegalese government approving the environmental and social impact assessment of its Diamba Sud gold project in the eastern part of the country. The license states that the project complies with applicable regulations.
The company submitted its mining permit application to the Senegalese Ministry of Energy, Petroleum and Mines on February 4, 2026. Fortuna said this authorization represents a “critical step” towards obtaining the permit.
Giorgi Januzza, president and CEO of Fortuna, said the speed with which the decree was issued should serve as a “testament” to the quality of the company’s work. “This achievement also reflects the commitment of the Government of Senegal to enabling the responsible development of its mining sector,” Janoza added.
The 2025 preliminary economic assessment of the Diamba Sud project showed an after-tax IRR of 72% and a 5% NPV of US$563 million using US$2,750 per ounce. The project’s budget for 2026 is US$100 million, and the final decision on investment and construction is expected to be made by mid-2026.
Fortuna is a Vancouver-based precious metals mining company with exploration projects in Argentina, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, Guyana and Peru, as well as the Diamba Sud project in Senegal.
