Norwegian oil and gas company Aker BP has set a cap on expanding the deployment of Digital Shaker Monitoring System technology across its contracted fleet on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS) through its collaboration with DrillDocs, a provider of computer vision technology for drilling optimization.

The expansion of the deployment of DrillDocs’ CleanSight digital monitoring system is part of a framework agreement for technology development and implementation that was drawn up after validation of the solution itself on Noble Integrator Drilling, which is said to have reduced non-productive turn-around time and enabled rapid detection of cave-ins, is an early warning of potential well instability.
Tommy SigmundstadSenior Vice President of Drilling, Wells, Supply Chain and Logistics at Aker BP confirmed: “This agreement underscores Aker BP’s ambition to lead industry transformation through safe, efficient and low-emission operations. By combining advanced camera technology with artificial intelligence, we aim to raise drilling performance and safety while accelerating our digital journey.”
Odfjell Drilling’s latest onboard installation Deep Sea North Cape The drilling rig represents the next step in Aker BP’s planned expansion of CleanSight technology across its contract drilling rig fleet to enable new information that allows drilling crews to react in near real-time to events occurring in the wellbore, significantly reducing fill risk and non-productive time and costs incurred when recovering from stuck pipe events.
Calvin HoltFounder and CEO of DrillDocs commented: “Our leading computer vision technology captures and interprets vital information that can lead to improved drilling efficiency and safety. By combining advances in camera technology and data science, we are able to measure drilling cleaning efficiency, detect drilling and wellbore stability issues as they occur, and alert the drilling team to take corrective action before they become much larger problems.”
“This demonstrates the power of camera-as-sensor technology, and we are excited to collaborate with a visionary operator like Aker BP to find new ways to leverage this capability to address the daily challenges that offshore platforms face.”
The framework agreement aims to support other innovative solutions being discussed and developed by Aker BP and DrillDocs. The Norwegian oil and gas company has recently taken steps to Increase her interest In a giant field in the Norwegian North Sea.
