A delegation from the Republic of Moldova and Romania visited ThPA SA today, in the context of strengthening cooperation in the field of transport and connectivity in the wider South-East European region. The delegation consists of Mr. Vladimir Puglia, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development of the Republic of Moldova, Mr. Andrej Popov, Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Greece, and Mr. Georgios Balazs, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Moldova in VT. The meeting was attended by Dr. Ioannis Tsaras, CEO of ThPA SA, along with the company’s executives.
During the meeting, prospects for developing synergies aimed at enhancing the flexibility and efficiency of supply chains serving the wider Balkan region were discussed. Particular emphasis was placed on taking advantage of Moldova’s geographical position as an emerging connectivity hub with European networks, along with the role of the Port of Thessaloniki as a gateway to Southeastern Europe and the Mediterranean. In this context, opportunities for developing logistics and transport infrastructure in Moldova were highlighted, as well as the role of international investment and expertise in accelerating the modernization of transport networks.
Particular emphasis was placed on the need to accelerate critical infrastructure projects, strengthen the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), and improve railways and cross-border communications, as common priorities for more efficient and faster market access across the region. In this context, the possibility of enhancing multimodal transport solutions was also explored, with the aim of reducing transit times and developing competitive transport services.
The delegation toured the port facilities and learned about the ongoing investments that are working to develop the port strategically, with the expansion of Berth 6 as a major project. When completed, the Port of Thessaloniki will significantly enhance its cargo handling capacity, strengthening its role as a major transit hub for Southeast Europe and a reliable partner in supporting regional supply chains.
The meeting stressed the importance of strengthening regional cooperation and developing modern and flexible infrastructure as basic requirements for improving connectivity and promoting economic growth throughout the wider region.
