A local company conducts soil investigations for Malaysia’s CCS development


Malaysian offshore site investigation company Helms Geomarine has been awarded a long-term contract to provide offshore soil investigation services for Petronas’ carbon capture and storage (CCS) developments across Malaysia.

The contract has been awarded by Petronas CCS Solutions (PCCS) for an initial period of three years with an option to extend for a further two years and covers offshore geotechnical investigations for future carbon capture and storage infrastructure, including carbon storage facilities, injection wells, offshore platforms, subsea pipelines and related offshore developments.

Helms will provide offshore drilling and sampling, downhole CPTu testing, laboratory testing, pile capacity and uplift assessments, driveability analysis, and geotechnical reporting services to support engineering design and project implementation.

The company said it will deploy the newly commissioned DP2 vessel and the four-point geotechnical mooring vessel Keyfield Itqan, equipped with advanced offshore drilling, sampling and downhole CPT equipment and on-board geotechnical laboratory facilities, for the work.
