Caterpillar (NYSE: CAT) The new Black Hills Engineering Design Center has opened in Rapid City, South Dakota. The facility uses virtual reality (VR) to help engineers design and test machines without the cost of actually building them.
The company said in a press release that 1579 AD2 The building will serve as a support center for machinery, engines, electrical and autonomous applications.
The company added that staff at the design center – which currently has more than 100 employees – play a “critical role” in its global strategy. Tools and technologies designed and tested in-house are designed to help teams work faster, make better decisions, and deliver solutions to customers more efficiently.
This investment also expands Caterpillar’s partnership with the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, continuing to strengthen the talent pipeline and research collaboration between the two organizations.
The facility is now operational, strengthening Caterpillar’s presence in the region.
