Performance Shipping Inc. announces On completion of sale and handover of M/T P. Sophia to new owners

Performance Shipping Inc., a global shipping company specializing in tanker vessel ownership, announced today that it has completed, through a separate wholly-owned subsidiary, the previously announced sale of the 2009-built 105,071 ton Aframax tanker vessel M/T P. Sophia, with the vessel successfully delivered to its new owners. M/T P. Sophia was debt free at the time of handover to the new owners.

As previously announced on February 17, 2026, the total sale price of the vessel was US$35.65 million. The Company acquired M/T P. Sophia in the third quarter of 2022 for an aggregate purchase price of approximately $27.6 million.

Commenting on the delivery, Andreas Michalopoulos, CEO of the company, said:

“Completing the sale of this vessel, while leveraging strong asset values, represents another important step in our fleet renewal strategy. This sale represents an approximately 30% increase over the vessel’s acquisition price paid four years ago and strengthens our liquidity position. Combined with recent corporate developments, this transaction reduces the average pro forma fleet age to approximately six years.”
