The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk shipping index, which monitors prices for ships carrying dry bulk goods, fell for the third session on Friday, falling about 3.1% to its lowest level since July 3 at 2,752 points.
The capital volume index, which typically transports 150,000 tons of cargo including iron ore and coal, also fell for a third day, falling 5.6% to 4,097 points, as weak cargo inquiries and increased ship availability put pressure on spot earnings.
Meanwhile, the Panamax index, which tracks ships carrying between 60,000 and 70,000 tons of coal or grain, fell 0.4% to 2,248 points.
Among small ships, the Supramax index rose 0.4% to a new high since August 2022 at 1,737 points.
Over the course of the week, the main index fell by more than 6%.
