US regulators suddenly closed a bank in Kansas in the fourth bank failure of 2026.
Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) He says The Kansas State Bank Commissioner’s Office has shut down the Small Business Bank.
The FDIC was appointed as receiver and entered into a purchase and assumption agreement with Farmers State Bank of Oakley, Kansas, which would assume substantially all of the deposits and purchase certain assets.
“The Small Business Bank’s only branch will reopen as a Farmers State Bank branch during regular business hours on Monday, July 20, 2026.
Small Business Bank depositors will automatically become depositors of Farmers State Bank. Deposits held by Farmers State Bank will continue to be insured by the FDIC, so there is no need for customers to change their banking relationship.
The FDIC did not say why the bank failed.
Headquartered in Lenexa, Small Business Bank had approximately $73 million in assets and approximately $69 million in deposits as of March 31, 2026.
Initial estimates indicate that failure would cost the agency’s deposit insurance fund about $5.7 million. The estimate is likely to change over time as the assets held are sold.
The other three bankrupt banks this year are Metropolitan Capital Bank & Trust in Illinois, Community Bank & Trust in west Georgia, and Kentland Federal Savings and Loan Association in Indiana.
