One of the major U.S. cryptocurrency exchanges is offering simplified options contracts aimed at unlocking broader adoption in the derivatives space.
Kraken He says It has launched European-style Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) options, settled in US dollars, on its Pro platform, starting with a request-for-quote function for eligible international clients.
Expansion to the General System book, Europe and more assets is planned next.
The new offering integrates with existing wallet margin accounts and supports collateral in over 30 currencies to reduce barriers for retail traders.
Kraken says the simplified structure aims to make derivatives more accessible without the need for complex setups.
“Cryptocurrency options activity is still a fraction of what it is in traditional markets, but the gap is narrowing as professional and institutional capital continues to move into digital assets.
The current options market in cryptocurrencies is created for a narrow segment of the trader base. Our offering expands access by designing a live, stable dollar contract that tracks the underlying assets directly, in the same account that clients already use for spot and futures contracts.
Kraken says future phases will expand availability and add liquidity through order books.
