  • Eric Richmond, CEO of Coinbase Canada, confirmed that the company is working to bring “everything exchange” to Canadian users.
  • The idea is to offer a single app that combines cryptocurrency markets, stocks, ETFs, and prediction markets – without announcing a specific launch date.
  • Token shares — shares registered on the blockchain that are instantly settled and traded around the clock — are planned for non-U.S. users, including Canadians, this month, with full dividend rights included.

Coinbase has a new proposition for Canada: Stop thinking of the company as just a cryptocurrency exchange, and start seeing it as the only financial app the country needs.

said Eric Richmond, CEO of Coinbase Canada BNN Bloomberg This week, the company is pushing Everything Exchange north of the border — a single platform where cryptocurrencies, stocks, ETFs (funds that track a basket of assets such as the S&P 500), and prediction markets (platforms where users bet real money on the outcomes of real-world events, such as elections or sports results) are traded from a single account.

“I think the first chapter of Coinbase in Canada was about being a cryptocurrency exchange,” Richmond said. “But now the second phase of that is exchanging everything. How do we create this one place for Canadians to have their entire financial experience in one app powered by this technology that makes things seamless, frictionless, 24/7?”

No specific release date has been set for Canada. Coinbase says it’s working closely with local regulators to get there — a relationship it has developed since becoming the first international cryptocurrency exchange registered in Canada in April 2024.

In the United States, construction is already well underway. Coinbase has opened trading of stocks and ETFs for eligible US users in February 2026 The prediction markets launched in January through Kalshi, a federally regulated prediction market operator now valued at $22 billion. Also decrypt Covered in Junethe company’s roadmap for Everything Exchange now includes nearly 10,000 stocks and ETFs on a single platform.

Token shares — shares in real companies registered on the blockchain rather than a traditional brokerage system, meaning trades are settled instantly and the market never closes — are supposed to reach non-U.S. customers this month, according to an earlier report. Official blog. Richmond framed it as a matter of access.

In terms of competition from Robinhood and traditional Canadian brokerages, Richmond wasn’t particularly concerned. “I think people are starting to wake up to the fact that banks close at 4 p.m., or markets close at 4 p.m., or that transfers can take days to settle, or that access to certain products by high-net-worth individuals is only restricted to high-net-worth individuals,” he told BNN Bloomberg.

His five-word summary: “A rising tide lifts all boats.”

The Bank of Canada is expected to finalize its stablecoin implementing regulations in 2027 — the last major piece of regulation Coinbase needs before it can list a Canadian dollar stablecoin and launch a fully-fledged everything exchange in the country.
