Allseas’ Solitaire, one of the world’s largest pipelaying vessels, is returning to sea after a ten-month refit and upgrade program that improves installation capabilities and production efficiency.

Allseas reported today, 24 July, that the comprehensive refit and upgrade program undertaken in Rotterdam is entering its final phase, with work touching almost every major system, modernizing propulsion, power generation, automation and hybrid power capabilities, with the conversion of the Double Joint Plant (DJF) that has been at the heart of the ship’s pipeline operations for more than 25 years.

Solitaire’s original DJF produced its final double joint in the previous setup in September 2025, having produced over 13,000 kilometers of pipeline, representing over half a million double joints.

“This was more than just a refit. The program represents a strategic reinvestment in a vessel that has helped define offshore pipelines for nearly three decades. The upgraded DJF lays the foundation for a more automated, data-driven, future-ready pipeline laying process, while extensive refits throughout the vessel enhance reliability, efficiency and performance for years to come.” All seas mentioned.

Following sea trials, Solitaire will return to commercial operations in the Gulf of Mexico on an ultra-deepwater pipeline project, before embarking on a two-year global campaign in West Africa, Taiwan and Australia, to connect more than 1,250 kilometers of pipeline.
