Brazilian state-owned energy giant Petrobras has revealed a new hydrocarbon discovery in the deep waters of the pre-salt Campos Basin off the coast of Brazil.

Petrobras found hydrocarbons in an exploratory well drilled in Block SC-AP4 of the Campos Basin, Block CM-477. Well 1-BRSA-1404DC-RJS is located 201 kilometers off the coast of Rio de Janeiro state, at a water depth of 2,984 metres.
The company explained that the hydrocarbon-bearing interval was determined through electrical records, gas displays, and fluid sampling. The samples will then be sent for laboratory analysis, allowing the reservoir conditions and fluids present to be characterized, allowing the potential of the area to be further evaluated.
Petrobras is the operator of block CM-477 (70% operating interest), in partnership with BP (30% operating interest). The Brazilian National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP) won the area in the 16th bidding round, under the concession system.
The Brazilian giant’s operations in the CM-477 bloc are said to be in line with its strategy to replenish oil and gas reserves through activities in frontier exploratory areas, in partnership with other companies, ensuring the supply of national energy demand during the energy transition.
Petrobras is keen to bolster its hydrocarbon arsenal, as evidenced by several recent drilling deals with… Phalaris, Cedrill, Across the ocean, Ventura Offshoreand constellation.
