
A panel discussion titled “Expanding Gold Production in Africa” will be featured at African Mining Week (AMW) 2026 in Cape Town which runs from 14 to 16 October. The session will explore strategies to boost gold production, formalize artisanal mining and boost investment across the continent.
The session will be moderated by Matt Panton, Head of Mining at Moore Global. The conference will include Foussini Togola, President of the Chamber of Mines of Mali, and Benford Mokwatl, President of the Chamber of Mines of Mali. Gold fields Executive Vice President of South Africa.
The news comes as gold prices remain above US$4,000 per ounce until 2026. In Mali, the government established the Office of Precious Materials to regulate artisanal mining across some 400 sites employing nearly two million people, while deepening partnerships with Barrick, B2Gold, Toubani Resources and Cora Gold.
According to a press release, speakers are expected to focus on national reforms and industrial partnerships. Togola will demonstrate how the Malian government is working to position the country among Africa’s largest gold producers.
