Quebec-based ARLYX has launched what it calls the first fully electrically autonomous material handling solution in underground mines. Developed over two years and tested at a Tier 1 mine, the new platform combines a multi-use vehicle with the company’s AutoLatch unit, and is designed to operate continuously, including during blasting periods.

According to ARLYX, one remote operator can supervise up to ten vehicles simultaneously. The system is compatible with LTE, 5G, Wi-Fi, and radio.

The platform is designed “for mines, their constraints and their realities,” says Michael Simard, founder and CEO of ARLYX. He added that addressing congestion on the slopes is a priority for the company, in an effort to increase overall productivity. “Slope congestion is the bottleneck for every underground mine. Every day, hours and thousands of dollars are left on the table. ARLYX is the first to address the problem at its source by removing the slope,” he concluded.

The platform will be on display in Timmins, Ontario, at the Canadian Mining Expo, June 10-11, and in Sudbury, Ontario, at the GMG Forum, June 16-17.
