The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk shipping index, which monitors prices for ships carrying dry bulk goods, continued its decline for the ninth straight session on Wednesday, falling almost 1.7% to a new low since May 1 at 2,771 points.
The cargo volume index, which usually transports goods weighing 150,000 tons including iron ore and coal, fell by about 3.2% to 4,301 points.
In contrast, the Panamax index, which tracks ships carrying between 60,000 and 70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose by 0.3% to 2,211 points. The Supramax index rose 0.3% to 1,618 points.
