The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk shipping index, which monitors prices for ships carrying dry bulk goods, fell about 1.4% to 3,151 points on Friday, after rising 0.2% the day before, under pressure from the larger sector.
The capital volume index, which typically transports 150,000 tons of cargo including iron ore and coal, fell 2.3% to 5,316, marking the biggest daily decline in a week.
On the other hand, the Panamax index, which usually carries between 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose 0.7% to 2,521 points. The Supramax index rose 0.5% to 1,565 points.
The standard index recorded a weekly increase of 5.8%.
