Bitcoin Maxi Jack Dorsey unveils new open source group chat app

Tech entrepreneur Jack Dorsey has announced a new group chat platform aimed at reducing teams’ reliance on platforms like Slack, in Bitcoin Maxi’s latest push for decentralization.

Co-founder of The Block books Tuesday on X that the new app, called Buzz, was “for teams of people and agents of all sizes” and “decentralized, self-sovereign, and open source.”

Described on its website as “a new native workspace for human teams and agents,” Buzz users can “chat with teammates and dedicated agents in one shared space, then jump right into planning, project management, programming, and PR.”

Statement from parent company Block He said The new application was built on the Nostr protocol for decentralized social networks.

“The interface will feel familiar to anyone who uses a modern group communication tool,” Block added.

“Every company will need a place where humans and agents work together,” said Bradley Axen, head of AI capabilities at Block.

“The question is whether this place is owned or open. We built Buzz because we believe it should be open.”

Decentralize everything

Dorsey, whose company Block owns Square and Cash App, has long been pushing for decentralized solutions: Primarily with Bitcoin.

The billionaire Twitter founder has left the social media company to focus his efforts on payments and Bitcoin adoption in 2021, saying he wants the cryptocurrency to be the global currency and “everyday money.”

He also described Satoshi Nakamoto’s Bitcoin whitepaper as “poetry.”

Cash App allows users to send, receive, buy and sell Bitcoin and Square POS terminals accept the orange coin over the Lightning Network.

Block also last year launched a Bitcoin mining rig with interchangeable parts, with the idea that miners could cut down on the costs of repairing and replacing hardware.
