UK-based energy giant BP has hired OneSubsea, a joint venture between SLB (formerly Schlumberger), Aker Solutions, and Subsea7, on a subsea enhancement mission in the Gulf of America (US Gulf of Mexico) deepwater development.
OneSubsea has been awarded a contract with BP to provide a subsea booster system for Thunder horse Development in the deep-water part of the American Gulf, for which the European giant and its American partner ExxonMobil recently Make a final investment decision (FID) To add about 15,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day to peak average annual production.
The SLB joint venture with Aker Solutions and Subsea7 will handle the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) scope of Thunder Horse, following the recent award of subsea reinforcement contracts to BP’s Cascade and Tiber The developments, which, alongside state-of-the-art developments, leverage the same supplier-led unified subsea booster system solution, which is said to help improve execution efficiency and shorten delivery times.
As part of the EPC contract, OneSubsea will deliver the subsea booster system, along with the associated project management, engineering, fabrication and testing required for implementation. The joint venture’s processing technology is expected to increase production and improve recovery, while the unified approach will enable faster deployment and greater operational efficiency.

The first oil from the Thunder Horse subsea pump project is expected to be produced in 2028, while Cascade and Tiber are expected to begin production in 2029 and 2030, respectively.
