California man allegedly extorted $84,000 from elderly victim after posing as a McAfee security representative

A Rosemead resident is now in custody after posing as a representative of McAfee Security to steal tens of thousands of dollars in cash from a 70-year-old Camarillo man.

The victim says he reported the theft to police in May 2026 after receiving a phone call from someone claiming to be from the security software company. Reports KTLA News 5.

The elderly man says the alleged fraudster told him his bank account information may have been hacked and provided accurate banking details to appear legitimate.

The victim says that over the course of a few days, the alleged scammer convinced him to withdraw $84,000 in cash and meet with a McAfee Security employee. He says he was instructed to provide a verbal security code before handing over the money.

After following instructions and handing over the money to 44-year-old Pinchao Sin, the elderly man says he realized he had been scammed and reported the incident to the Camarillo Police Department.

Authorities say they contacted Sen on June 30 while he was on his way to meet another potential victim. Police say they suddenly arrested Sen, and found in his possession a huge sum of cash and a modified airsoft rifle.

Cen now faces charges of theft by false pretenses, grand theft and theft from an elderly adult. Bail was set at $500,000.
