A Florida resident has been accused of defrauding a Wells Fargo customer out of $20,000 by pretending to be a bank official.
Kevon Christopher Key Marley Shaw is accused of repeatedly contacting the victim in September 2025 and identifying himself as “Stephen Fenton” of Wells Fargo’s fraud department. Reports Tamarac talk.
Police say Shaw provided the victim with the correct account details and convinced him his bank funds were at risk of being stolen.
The 23-year-old allegedly told the victim that to protect his money in the account, he had to withdraw $20,000 in cash and then hand the cash over to the postman. The victim withdrew $20,000 from a Wells Fargo branch on North Dixie Highway in Fort Lauderdale and handed it to a courier who arrived at his home.
Shaw allegedly sought to steal more money from the victim and contacted him dozens of times over several days. After the victim became suspicious, she contacted the security authorities, who opened an investigation.
Investigators set up an operation to arrest the fraudster. They asked the victim to arrange another cash delivery and monitored the incident.
Using subpoenas and digital records, including Uber transaction data, phone numbers and financial account activity, investigators allegedly linked the scheme to Shaw, who was arrested on March 27.
He is out on bail after posting a $30,000 bond.
