US-based energy technology giant Baker Hughes has secured a contract extension with Brazilian state-owned energy giant Petrobras to expand integrated well construction operations across the South American country’s offshore oil and gas fields.

Building on the well construction services award announced in early 2024, the contract extension with Petrobras will enable Baker Hughes to provide integrated well construction solutions across Brazil’s Santos Basin, expanding the company’s overall well construction operations in several oil fields in the basin.
The US company’s portfolio, including the AutoTrak rotary steerable system, while-drilling logging tools and Dynamus long-life drill bits, will be deployed across the deepwater well construction portfolio.
This is expected to enable efficient access to aquifers and support the continued development of Brazil’s pre-salt oil and gas resources. The new expansion expands the scope and impact of Baker Hughes’ integrated drilling solutions in the region.
The American giant’s integrated approach is seen as unlocking additional value for complex operations, and enhancing efficiency and innovation in offshore developments. The project will be implemented by the company’s Integration and Solutions team alongside Petrobras’ wells team.
The combined expertise is expected to increase operational efficiency in Petrobras’ offshore well construction operations. Aside from specialist drilling solutions, the team will benefit from technologies and expertise across wirelines, cementing, wellbore cleaning, fishing, therapeutic tools, fluids, services and geosciences.
Amerino GattiBaker Hughes, Executive Vice President, Oilfield Services and Equipment, said: “The success of this important project demonstrates the strength and capabilities of Baker Hughes’ comprehensive portfolio, which offers an integrated, solutions-focused approach.
“By combining innovative technology with a holistic view of project management, we are setting new standards for efficiency and safety in well construction.”
This contract extension comes months after Baker Hughes Acquired Long-term deal with Petrobras to support critical turbine machinery equipment for offshore and refining operations.
