ICS Greek Branch and Alba Graduate Business School successfully complete the 6th Summer School “Shipping at Work”

The Greek Branch of the Institute of Certified Shipbrokers (ICS), in cooperation with the ALBA Graduate School of Business, successfully concluded the 6th Summer Course “Shipping in Action”, held from 6 to 9 July 2026.

The four-day program brought together students from Greece and abroad for an immersive educational experience, combining academic lectures, company visits and cultural activities, providing a comprehensive introduction to the world of commercial shipping.

This year’s academic program included lectures delivered by distinguished marine specialists and industry experts. Panagiotis Kourakas, Assistant Lecturer at Alba and CEO of Isalos.net, opened the program with a lecture on the development and global success of Greek shipping. Dr. Alexandros Glickas, Director of DYNAMARINE and lecturer at Alba, presented the impact of technological innovation and sustainability on modern shipping. Giannis Kazianis MICS, Managing Director of Albatros Management Inc., introduced the students to the basics of the shipping and charter markets. Simon Ward, Buying and Selling Director at Ursa Shipbrokers SA, delivered an interactive session on buying and selling ships, while Titos Giannakakis, Visiting Lecturer and Executive Director at DYNAMARINE Training Academy, concluded the academic program with an insightful lecture on shipping management.

One of the highlights of the summer school was the opportunity to visit some of Greece’s leading shipping organizations. Participants visited the headquarters of Angelicoussis Group, Seaven Tanker & Dry Management, IGMAR Group Spanopoulos Shipyard and Danaos Shipping Co., gaining first-hand exposure to different sectors of the maritime industry and experiencing how shipping companies operate in practice.

The Greek Chapter of ICS and ALBA Graduate School of Business would like to express their sincere appreciation to all participating companies for their valuable presentations and continuous support in helping to bridge the gap between academic learning and industrial practice.

Besides the academic programme, the students also explored the cultural heritage of Greece through a guided visit to the Acropolis and a trip to the Athens Riviera, creating lasting memories alongside their educational experience.

The continued success of the Summer School reflects the strong partnership between the ICS Greek Chapter and the Alba Graduate Business School, both recognized leaders in maritime education in Greece. Alba offers specialist postgraduate programs in shipping, while the Greek branch of ICS offers internationally recognized professional maritime qualifications through the ICS Professional Maritime programme, leading to ICS membership, the globally respected professional qualification for shipping professionals.

The Institute of Certified Shipbrokers Greece Chapter and the ALBA Graduate School of Business are looking forward to welcoming a new group of students to the 7th “Shipping in Action” Summer School next year.
