LithiumBank has entered into a feasibility study and front-end engineering design (FEED) agreement with SLB to advance the Boardwalk lithium brine project in northwest Alberta toward commercial production.
According to a press release, SLB will support the project with its lithium production solution, covering brine treatment, direct lithium extraction (DLE), impurity removal and lithium conversion processes. LithiumBank says FEED will expand based on its 2024 Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA) by offering integrated engineering and operations designs, leveraging existing oil and gas infrastructure to lower costs and reduce risks.
“We are excited to develop Boardwalk powered by SLB, whose proven technology and world-class implementation capabilities from subsurface expertise to lithium conversion provide a path to commercial production that will enable the company to de-risk and accelerate our commercial production journey, effectively bypassing costly and time-consuming demonstration facility operations,” said Rob Shewchuk, CEO and Director of LithiumBank. “This collaboration will provide a path for the company to achieve Canada’s first commercial brine production exceeding 10,000 tons per year of LCE.”
LithiumBank also pointed to ongoing government support, highlighting $3.9 million in non-dilutive financing from the Alberta Emissions Reduction Program.
