Multotec, a Johannesburg-based metals and metals processing company, has announced that it has supplied spiral equipment for Thaba JV’s chromite and platinum group minerals (PGMs) project in Limpopo Province, South Africa.
The supply agreement included a range of cyclone technologies, from high recovery units designed for wider particle sizes to ultra-fine models and units specifically designed for cleaning tasks. The company did not disclose the financial details of the deal.
“Together, these spirals provide high separation efficiency, improved recoveries and consistent product quality, reflecting Multotec’s continued drive for technological advancement,” said Christina Ramotsabe, Product Manager for Spirals at Multotec.
The helices are gravity condensers that separate minerals by density, and are intended to provide higher recoveries and cleaner products in chromite plants and PGMs.
Thaba JV is a 50:50 partnership between Sylvania Metals subsidiary Sylvania Platinum and Limberg Mining subsidiary ChromTech. The project is located near the town of Thabazimbi in the Bushveld Ignus complex in South Africa.
