NKT has confirmed its participation in the official opening of 400 kV HVDC Champlain Hudson Power Express (CHPE) A transmission line in New York City in the United States, with its customers, Transmission Developers (TDI)Blackstone Company, and Hydro Quebec.

The link extends more than 600 kilometers (372 miles) from Quebec, Canada, to the heart of New York City, representing a major step in transforming the city’s energy system capable of supplying enough Canadian hydropower to cover up to 20% of electricity demand.

This is equivalent to energy for about one million households. after Contract award In 2022, the company is headquartered in Denmark It has been implemented The turnkey project which includes engineering and fabrication works as well as installation of a 400kV HVDC power cable system.

Claes WesterlindNKT President and CEO commented: “The opening of the Champlain Hudson Power Express is a tremendous milestone for NKT and the transition to renewable energy in New York City.

“It reflects the value of strong collaboration and long-term partnerships, and it has been an honor to work with TDI, Hydro-Québec and our partners to realize this important project that contributes to the energy transition in the United States.”

The transmission line, which reached commercial operation ahead of schedule in May, included extensive fabrication as well as extensive onshore and offshore installation work across multiple environments, including Lake Champlain and the Hudson and Harlem Rivers.

NKT previously completed a network connection on the Canadian side of the border, allowing a fully integrated transportation link to New York City. The commission comes after years of planning, development and installation, and was celebrated at an official opening ceremony held in New York City on June 16, 2026.

The $6 billion Champlain Hudson Power Express project is now capable of transporting up to 1,250 megawatts of renewable hydropower from Canada to New York City as a major contribution to the city’s energy transition.

Justin SauberTDI CEO explained: “You can’t build a world-class transmission line that changes the lives of millions of New Yorkers without world-class cable. NKT’s partnership in CHPE, from the early days of development through testing and commissioning, has been critical to CHPE’s success.
