CMHI Shipyard in Shenzhen, China, has begun construction of two methanol-ready, dual-fuel multi-purpose subsea vessels for Norwegian company Olympic Subsea.

Earlier in April, the keel for the first vessel and the first steel pieces for the second vessel were laid at the CMHI Shenzhen shipyard, Olympic Subsea said.
The vessels will be methanol-ready and feature hybrid battery technology, with delivery on track for summer 2027. They will operate in both the renewable energy and oil and gas sectors, and feature advanced technologies said to exceed the requirements of the Paris Agreement.
The duo was designed by Kongsberg Maritime based on the UT7623 Sustainable Energy Vessel (SEV) design. Under a contract announced in March 2025.
The comprehensive package of integrated technology is described as the most energy efficient in its class, and will include electric azimuthal propulsion, retractable azimuthal bow thrusters, consoles, propulsion motors, hybrid battery power, integrated bridge system, automation and control systems, dynamic positioning system, tank soundings, mooring winches, and an overhead ROV launch and recovery system (LARS).
