Vivian Lapointe, Member of Parliament for Sudbury, announced an investment of C$150,000 in Cambrian College from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) to support a research project to develop technology in remote environments.
Through a two-year initiative, Cambrian R&D will collaborate with… Rove Diamondan off-road vehicle dealer, is in a project to expand its Fat Truck capabilities. The stated goal is to develop a lighter, more efficient lifting system and a dedicated tail tow sled to enable safer transport of supplies across Arctic terrain. The total cost of the project is CAD 227,500.
“By partnering with RufDiamond, Cambrian R&D is helping advance some of the most important sectors in Northern Ontario,” Lapointe said in a press release.
The team will design, build and test the prototypes at Cambrian’s research and development facilities. The college said the program would provide “valuable practical learning opportunities” to Cambrian students.
“This project reflects exactly the kind of collaboration that keeps Canadian innovation serving Canadians, building technology here in the North that can serve the defence, mining, forestry and emergency response sectors,” added Darryl Adams, President of RufDiamond.
Christine Morrissey, president of Cambrian, described the program as “a great fit” for all involved. “It advances Cambrian’s strategic priorities of preparing students for career success and growing partnerships with industry, increases the diversity and capabilities of RufDiamond’s Fat Truck and contributes to the federal government’s strategic initiatives,” she concluded.
