Saipem has commenced development operations on Suriname’s first large-scale offshore oil project, operated by TotalEnergies, as part of its umbilical Subsea, Risers and Flowlines (SURF) contract awarded in 2024.
Saipem He is responsible for Engineering, procurement, supply, construction, installation, pre-commissioning and assistance in commissioning and commissioning of the SURF package, in water depths ranging from 100 to 1,100 metres, for the GranMorgu project.
The Italian company reported on June 23 that the arrival of the multi-purpose construction vessel Normand Navigator at the commercial port of Jules Sydney Harbor in Paramaribo marks the start of its operations for the project, with the vessel docked and preparing to begin initial activities.
For the naval campaign, Saipem will deploy a combination of S-Lay and J-Lay ships. The dual offshore base approach will see the company use a logistics center at Jules Sydney Harbour, spanning an estimated 30,000 to 40,000 square metres, dedicated to receiving, handling and storing all incoming pipes, equipment and standard containers before they are loaded onto supply vessels bound for offshore fields.
The DORDT Naval Support Base, also located in Paramaribo, will receive, store and manage heavy subsea structures and manifolds.
The GranMorgu project is operated by TotalEnergies (40%) together with APA Corporation (40%) and Statsolie (20%). Located in Block 58, 150 kilometers offshore, the project represents Suriname’s first large-scale offshore oil development and is expected to become operational in 2028.
