Following an external audit of its Information Security Management System (ISMS), Sandvik Mining achieved ISO/IEC 27001 certification – an accreditation that certifies that the company’s operations meet international standards for data security.

Sophia Servel, executive vice president and chief digital officer of Sandvik, said the certification underscores the company’s commitment to mitigating cyber risks. “Our customers and partners should be able to rely on secure, well-managed services,” said Servel. “This certification reinforces our commitment to protecting information assets and continually improving the way we manage security risks.”

The review examined several areas within Sandvik’s Information Security Management System (ISMS), including cybersecurity, data protection and third-party risk. Sandvik says aligning its development practices with ISO/IEC 27001 helps protect customer data, intellectual property and operational environments.

The standard provides a framework that improves accountability and “builds trust for both Sandvik and our customers as we continue to modernize our application landscape,” said Janne Kivinen, director of enterprise technology at Sandvik.

The ISO/IEC framework requires companies to demonstrate strong governance, risk assessment, access controls, incident response capacity and supplier management practices.
