Norwegian company Shearwater GeoServices has been commissioned to conduct a seismic survey offshore Australia to explore the carbon storage potential of the Bonaparte Basin, marking the second carbon capture and storage (CCS) survey in this basin.
Under the 3D seismic contract, the Norwegian company will deploy SW Bly for an expected period of 50 days, starting in the third quarter of 2026, to support the assessment of carbon storage potential.
The geophysical data collected will be highly utilized for determining the locations of future injection wells and will serve as a baseline survey for potential future 4D seismic monitoring, Shearwater said.
This is the company’s second carbon capture and storage survey in the Bonaparte Basin after a similar campaign in 2024.
