
AActivity over the past week has seemed more dynamic on the S&P front, rather than the new construction market. In its latest weekly report, shipbroker Exclusive said that “in the Newcastlemax sector, Chinese buyers acquired ‘RTM CARTIER’ – 205K/2012 HHIC and ‘RTM ZHENG HE’ – 205K/2012 HHIC for US$90 million each. Reducing sizes, the post-Panamax vessel was ‘OHSHU MARU’ – 92K/2011 Namura” sold for 16.2 mills in US dollars, while the Panamax machine “ALEXANDROS PETRAKIS” – 76K/2008 Shin Casado sold for the region at 13.3 mills in US dollars to Chinese buyers.
In the Ultramax segment, two ‘NEW DAYANG NDY1315’ and ‘NEW DAYANG NDY1316’ – 64K/2027 New Dayang resold for US$36.5 million each. In the Supramax category, the “SUNNY ROYAL” – 59K/2011 Kawasaki sold for US$18.5 with SS/DD due 2028/2030, while the “HONOUR” – 57K/2010 Cosco Zhoushan sold for US$13.3 to Chinese buyers. In addition, OHBS “PHOENIX K” – 55K/2007 Oshima was sold for US$14 million. Finally, in the Handysize segment, Vietnamese buyers acquired the “STRADION” – 37K/2011 HMD and “DORYSIA” – 37K/2010 HMD ranges for US$25.5 million.
In the tanker market, Exclusive added, “In the VLCC segment, Chinese buyers snapped up ‘KASAGISAN’ – 302K/2006 Mitsui for US$58. In the LR1 segment, ‘CAPE TAMPA’ – 74K/2009 New Times sold for low/mid US$20, and one year older CAPE TAFT – 74K/2008 New Times” In addition, “PAN CAKE” – 73K/2006 Dalian sold for US$19 million in the MR2 sector, “OPTIMAL ACE” – 50K/2006 STX traded for US$16.5 million, while “GT Freedom” – 46K/2003 Shin Kurushima sold for US$8.5 million in the MR1 sector, Greek buyers snapped up “EASTERLY CANYON” – 37K/2009 HMD for US$19 Finally, in the small tanker segment, the Chinese-built sister ships “BRO NISSUM” and “BRO NUUK” – 17K/2008 were sold for US$12 million each and the shipbroker concluded that they were also sold to Chinese buyers for US$10.8 million.
Meanwhile, in the newbuild market, shipbroker Banchero Costa added, “In the tanker sector, Chinese Yangzhou Ryuwa Shipbuilding Company has secured an order for a 1 x 114,000 ton tanker from China’s Yangpu Zhongxin Shipping. Options have been held for two more (potential total of five vessels). Total cost including options if exercised is $293 million; delivery January 2029.
