SLB and Vår Energi embark on a digital quest to accelerate decision-making in the oil and gas industry

Headquartered in the US, SLB is pooling resources with Norwegian oil and gas company Vår Energi to help the operator progress from discovery to development, reducing time to first oil production by relying on multidisciplinary and collaborative well planning workflows that reduce cycle times from months to days for projects on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS).

SLB and Vår Energi have joined forces in an expanded collaboration to expand well-planned and integrated field development planning across the operator’s Norwegian continental shelf operations. While collaborative well planning already reduces cycle times from months to days, integrated field development planning is expected to support similar benefits.

In light of this, the expanded deployment is designed to support faster and more consistent decision-making, as operators work to maintain production from mature offshore assets while managing increasing development complexity. Vår Energi deploys the Delfi digital platform to connect subsurface exploration and evaluation, well planning, subsea design, field development planning and production in a cloud-native environment.

By enabling teams to work in sync using shared data and standardized workflows, SLB claims this approach reduces handoffs and rework, and supports more consistent and timely decision-making from early assessment through development planning.

Rakesh JaggiSLB’s Head of Digital Business commented: “As external developments become more complex, performance increasingly depends on how quickly teams can align, evaluate options and make decisions using reliable data.

“By bringing disciplines together in an integrated digital environment, operators can shorten planning cycles and improve the speed and quality of decisions needed to advance opportunities, including marginal subsea tie-ups.”

This expanded collaboration reflects a broader shift toward cloud-based planning approaches that help operators reduce the time between key development milestones, improve coordination across disciplines, and maximize value from existing resources in mature basins.

The standardized and integrated workflow is seen to enable simultaneous multi-disciplinary working, reducing hand-offs and rework while improving timely and reliable data decisions for mature offshore assets, including marginal subsea interconnections.

This agreement in Norwegian waters comes shortly after the SLB Won multiple deals For offshore drilling services in the gas development project off the coast of Indonesia in cooperation with Mubadala Energy.
