Spain-based engineering consultancy BlueNewables has launched the first PV-bos floating solar technology platform in Vigo, before transporting it to its final site in Valencia to complete operational validation in open sea conditions.

The platform, called Paiporta, was launched at the facilities of the Vigo-based San Enrique shipyard on May 18.
PV-bos combine bifacial solar panels, modular floating platforms and containerized inverters. According to the company, the system uses seawater as a natural coolant to improve energy efficiency.
Over the coming weeks, final commissioning and preparation work will be completed in Vigo, before the platform is towed to Valencia.
BlueNewables said that the platform was named Paiporta in honor of the victims of the DANA storm, which severely affected Valencian society, especially the municipality of Valencia, which became one of the symbols of the tragedy.
“This is a very important milestone in our technology roadmap. The launch of the ‘Paiporta’ platform places BlueNewables among the world leaders in the offshore floating solar sector and demonstrates the existing industrial and technological capabilities in Galicia and Spain to lead innovative energy solutions at an international level.” He said Bernardino Cunagoco-founder and CEO of BlueNewables.
