Japanese exploration and production (E&P) company Inpex highlighted progress in advancing discussions for LNG offtake deals and gas pipelines from its planned LNG project in Indonesia’s Masila region, which is seen as a way to boost energy security in Southeast Asia.
Inpex has reached multiple agreements in principle with energy players, including PT Pubuk Indonesia (Persero) to Pipeline for natural gas supply from Eternal LNG Project and baby, PT Perusahan Gas Negara, PT PLN Primary Energy Indonesiaand Eastern Shell Trading Company To purchase liquefied natural gas from the same project in the Masila offshore area in Indonesia.
The Japanese company is currently developing the large-scale LNG project as an operator through its subsidiary Inpex Masela, in partnership with its joint venture partners, PT Pertamina Hulu Energi and Petronas Masela. The Production Sharing Contract (PSC) runs until November 15, 2055.
The company intends to work with potential customers to finalize sales and purchase agreements (SPA) that are expected to collectively cover a significant portion of the project’s expected LNG production volume.
The company claims that the agreements in principle related to the purchase of liquefied natural gas represent an important milestone for the project and contribute to its stability progress Towards the Final Investment Decision (FID).
The initial agreement on natural gas supplies via pipelines is expected to lead to a Gas Sales Agreement (GSA). The Abadi gas field is expected to support the efficient development and stable production of LNG and pipelines in the long term.
“The discussions are also consistent with the Indonesian government’s focus on improving the use of domestic natural resources, and are expected to support the growth of energy demand across the Asia-Pacific region.” Inpex confirmed.
