Liebherr has launched the LMD 1200, a towing machine designed for extreme conditions and easy transport.
The tow machine is a long-lift mining excavator that uses a suspended bucket to pull out overburden so the crew can access the minerals underneath.
The company said the new machine has a maximum lifting capacity of 30 tons with a working radius of 40 metres. The LMD 1200 can also be equipped with a drag bucket of up to 12.25 m3 and can dig up to 25 m depth. The machine combines automatic hydraulic winch control with large diameter grooved ropes and quick change rope to prolong the service life of the rope.
Mobility is a priority for the new design, Lieber said. “The entire mining drag line can be assembled or disassembled within a week,” she said in a press release, adding that this was a “clear advantage” over previous models, considering that the machine weighs more than 360 tons.
The model was unveiled as part of Liebherr-Werk’s 50th anniversary in June 2026. It is currently available to order.
