Aberdeen-based energy solutions company OEG has been awarded a multi-million dollar long-term contract extension to provide assistance during drilling activities off the coast of Australia.

With a multi-year contract extension, OEG will support offshore drilling operations in Australia Bass Strait field Until the end of the field’s life, expected in 2036. After reaching an agreement with ExxonMobil, Woodside was manufactured Destined to become Operator of Bass Strait Assets.
The deal will see the company supply and manufacture 200 DNV-certified marine bulk carrier units (2.7-1) from its Barry Beach facility in Victoria, Australia. Thanks to the recent expansion, six employees from the company will provide full inspection, maintenance and repair services for the units when needed, in addition to crane and lifting services.
As a result, the total number of OEG CCUs and serviced units supporting the operator’s offshore operations in the region will rise to approximately 700. The Bass Strait offshore field began production in the late 1960s.
Commenting on the contract extension Beau RobinsOEG’s Regional Director for Australia and New Zealand confirmed: “The contract extension reflects a long-term relationship built over many years.
“It also highlights the value of long-term lease agreements in supporting operational planning and equipment availability, reducing unplanned maintenance and helping operators improve efficiency while preserving capital until the end of the field life.”
The Bass Strait field, which was Australia’s first major offshore development, supplied a large proportion of the country’s oil and gas demand, especially to Victoria. Several offshore facilities in Bass Strait have ceased production after the field was exhausted; Therefore, an active restoration program is currently underway.
OEG, which operates from six sites across Australia and New Zealand and provides integrated solutions to the energy sector, claims the field has played a key role in supporting domestic energy security while demonstrating long-term production from a mature offshore basin.

The Bass Strait project, which consists of conventional oil and gas fields in the Gippsland Basin off the south-eastern coast of Victoria, includes an integrated network of offshore platforms and subsea links connected via extensive pipeline infrastructure to onshore processing facilities at Longford and Long Island Point.
