Aberdeen-based decommissioning services provider Well-Safe Solutions has secured a new decommissioning assignment at a field in the North Sea on the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) and has hired Archer and NMC Energy to provide assistance with the Plug and Abandon (P&A) scope of work.

As a result of the additional contract, the scope of the joint work now includes more than 260 wells, making it one of the largest well decommissioning contracts awarded in the North Sea to date. In light of this, Well-Safe Solutions has contracted platform-based drilling services and specialized technical solutions to Archer, which will provide well service solutions, wired and coiled tubing and a combined well maintenance platform.
The Scottish company has also awarded a contract to NMC Energy to provide upside integration, commissioning and decommissioning services. The collaborative approach is expected to provide Apache with a fully integrated solution for platform decommissioning and subsea wells across the Forties and Beryl assets.

With preparatory work already underway in the areas of subsurface work, well engineering and project management, offshore well operations are scheduled to begin on Beryl Bravo platform wells in the summer, while subsea well decommissioning operations are scheduled to begin in 2027, kicking off a multi-year work program.
