Wolong Electric (SHA: 600580) Launched the new MD600Z series of shielded direct current (DC) motors to improve upgradability.

According to Wolong, many plants using older engines from the 1940s to the late 1970s are reluctant to upgrade. Newer engines operate at different speeds and inertia characteristics, meaning systems can be disabled when switching. Wolong aims to address this. The MD600Z engines retain the original design of the older models, while updating the platform.

The MD600Z updates the old shell design with a split frame construction, stronger bearings, and heavy-duty sealing. It also builds on the latest thermal and reliability features of the MD800.

Wolong said the new models match the electrical and mechanical interfaces of the old MD600 motors, including inertia similar to the real replacement without affecting acceleration. For steel and crane operators, the company said this means longer equipment life, easier maintenance, and reduced retrofit risks.

Engines ship with a five-year warranty.

In mining operations, DC motors can be found in a variety of machines from conveyor systems and cranes to crushers and excavators.
